For those who live in the US:
No one tells you what the internet is for. You get to decide. Whatever you want to make, or do, or say, the internet is there for you. That's a powerful thing.
But now the cable companies are trying to make that decision for you. They want to pick winners and losers on the internet. How? Money.
Sites that pay special fees to your cable company will behave like normal. Sites that don't (or can't) pay those fees will be slower, degraded, or even completely inaccessible.
That's not the internet. That's cable TV. It's packages and channels and layers of approval and a maze of bureaucracy. It'll ruin this great thing we've all built.
It doesn't have to be like this. The FCC has a tool available to them called "Title II." Rules written under Title II could act as a bill of rights for traffic on the internet, and ensure that cable companies can't abuse their positions as carriers of that traffic. Through Title II, we can make certain that the future of the internet is in our hands. Not theirs.
The internet belongs to everybody.
Let's keep it that way.
The most important FCC vote of our lifetime is about to happen.
On Feb 26 the FCC will vote to save net neutrality or let Comcast and other ISPs create Internet slow lanes. Some members of Congress, on behalf of their Cable donors, are trying to stop the FCC from protecting the Internet we love. There isn't much time to stop them, contact them now.
HELP THE FCC PROTECT THE INTERNET
We're here to help you contact your congressperson and tell them how, through Title II protection, they can ensure that traffic keeps moving for everybody on the internet, and no one gets left behind.
